Mount Vernon Road Residence
The owners, who enjoy sharing their home with friends and church groups, originally planned to add a kitchen and living space to their existing residence. After several concepts were presented to address drainage problems and other restrictions in the existing design, they realized the existing home would not adequately suit their needs and decided to demolish the home.
The existing house did provide views of the surrounding property, including a special east facing view toward a nearby pond and mature live oak trees. The orientation of the spaces in the new design wrapped around a mature live oak. A large, open kitchen, dining, great room and porch provide multiple locations for gatherings. In addition, the private bedroom spaces were designed to accommodate siblings of the owners if future assisted-living accommodations are required.
